Senior Centers in Vermont
Senior centers are the local front door to services for older adults: a daily meal, rides, exercise and social programs, benefits counseling and a staff person who knows every program in the area. Most are run by the town or a nonprofit and are free or low cost for anyone 60 and over. In Vermont they work alongside the Area Agency on Aging, which funds many of their meal and transportation programs.
Who pays
Town budgets, Older Americans Act funds through the Area Agency on Aging, state grants and donations. Programs are free or ask a small donation.
How to choose
Use the one nearest home; nothing stops you from using another town's. Call, ask for the director or outreach worker, and describe the situation. If the center is closed the day you call, the Area Agency on Aging answers the same questions.
