Hospice in Vermont
Hospice provides comfort care, nursing, aide help, social work, spiritual care and family support for people with a life expectancy of six months or less, most often in their own home or in a nursing home. Every Medicare-certified hospice in Vermont is listed here.
Who pays
The Medicare hospice benefit covers hospice care in full, including medications and equipment related to the terminal illness. Vermont Medicaid (Green Mountain Care) and private insurance also cover it.
How to choose
Ask whether the hospice is non-profit or for-profit, how often a nurse visits, whether they have an inpatient unit, and what the overnight on-call response time is. CMS publishes family survey results for each hospice.
