Area Agencies on Aging in Rhode Island
Area Agencies on Aging are the local agencies designated under the Older Americans Act to plan and arrange services for older adults in a county or region: information and referral, home-delivered and congregate meals, transportation, in-home help, caregiver support and benefits counseling. Every county in the country is covered by one. There is no charge to call.
Who pays
Federal Older Americans Act funds, state funds and local contributions. Services are free or on a voluntary-donation basis; some are limited by income or need.
How to choose
There is nothing to choose: call the agency that covers the county where the older adult lives, or the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116 to be connected to it.
