Home Health Agencies in Massachusetts

Medicare-certified home health agencies send nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, social workers and home health aides to the home under a doctor's plan of care. This is skilled, short-term, medical care, usually after a hospital or rehab stay. It is different from non-medical home care, which Massachusetts does not license.

Who pays

Medicare Part A or B covers home health in full when a doctor certifies the person is homebound and needs skilled care. MassHealth and most Medicare Advantage plans cover it too.

How to choose

You may choose any certified agency that serves your town; the hospital discharge planner will suggest one but cannot require it. Compare the CMS quality of patient care star rating, and ask how quickly they can start.

Home health by town

Town pages list every home health agency that serves the town, sorted by distance. 20 MetroWest towns are live now; the rest of the state is being added.

What is not listed here

Massachusetts does not license non-medical home care agencies (companions, homemakers, private-pay aides), so there is no public roster to publish. The ASAP that serves each town vets home care vendors for the state Home Care Program; ask it for its vendor list.
