Councils on Aging and Senior Centers in Massachusetts

Every Massachusetts city and town has a Council on Aging (COA), a municipal department that runs the senior center and is the front door to local services: transportation, meals, outreach, SHINE health-insurance counseling, tax-relief programs and social programs. COA services are free or low cost and open to residents 60 and over.

Town budgets, state formula grants from the Executive Office of Aging & Independence, and Friends groups. Services are free or low cost.

How to choose

You do not choose a COA; you use your own town's. Call the senior center, ask for the outreach worker, and describe the situation. Outreach workers know every program in the region and will refer you to the Aging Services Access Point when in-home help is needed.
